Background
Although many civilians and combatants were killed by the Bush administration, the use of targetted assassinations and drone attacks were greatly limited as the emphasis of that government was on capture and detention.
The presidency of President Barack Hussein Obama was to lead to a new era of due process and human rights in the context of counter-terrorism operations. Far from doing so, the regime has taken on the single most destructive tool in its counter-terrorism arsenal, that of extrajudicial killings, particularly through predator drone attacks.
Althought Cageprisoners was established to predominantly deal with issues of due process relating to prisoners, we have decided to increase our remit to include extrajudicial killings as the ultimate permutation of the denial of due process. We are currently in the process of conducting key research into this area and will publish our findings soon.
