PRESS CONFERENCE: Cageprisoners reveal that British and French intelligence complicit in torture
In July 2001, Djamel Beghal, a French national who resided in the UK, was detained in UAE en route to Morocco. Based on evidence gleaned from processes such as water torture and falaqa, Beghal was eventually convicted in France, but further, it also led to the convictions of others in Europe based on the same falsified testimony.
On Wednesday 12 October 2011, Cageprisoners will release the report: Djamel Beghal, which reveals how both the British and French authorities, even prior to 9/11, were involved in the torture of terrorism suspects. For the first time Beghal gives a detailed account to Cageprisoners about his experience and the consequences of abuse.
The report further details the role that French investigating judges have played in procuring and using that tainted evidence to their advantage in prosecuting terrorism trials.
