Do we have to be so stupid?

A magazine has recently released videos and pictures of American soldiers assassinating and mutilating Afghans. The barbaric behaviour of the “kill team” has caused a great shock. Nevertheless, there is actually very little to be surprised about since it is only a logical consequence of this type of war.

When I was down in Guantánamo a few months ago, a veteran German journalist let it slip that she didn't much care for the place. "This," she confided in me, and many of the other journalists there as well, "is the worst place I have ever visited in my entire career."

Outsourcing the Dirty War in Afghanistan

A big revelation from Bob Woodward's new book Obama's Wars is that the CIA maintains a 3000-strong Afghan paramilitary force that conducts cross-border operations into Pakistan. Though news to the U.S. public, these abusive paramilitary forces are unfortunately far too well known to many Afghan civilians.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the Taliban's shadow government, has denounced former British Prime Minister Tony Blair for calling "radical Islam" the "greatest threat" to the world. In a statement dated September 14, 2010, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan also accused the Western nations of diluting and distorting the "principles of Islam" in order to maintain their control of Islamic lands.
