Casablanca bombings, the day after

 

Nine years after Morocco experienced the deadliest attacks in its recent history, it has emerged that the country has played a central role in the Global War on terror. While the enthronization of a young king had given rise to much hope, those aspirations seem to have been written off by Morocco’s involvement in the gravest forms of mistreatment  in the guise of counter-terrorism.

No parent should have to bury their child

“No parent should have to bury their child.” That was the first thought that crossed my mind when I met Talal al-Zaharani - father of one of the young men who died in Guantanamo in 2006 - last week in Oslo at the screening of the film Death in Guantanamo by Norwegian filmmaker Erling Borgen.

Moazzam Begg On Fire

I’ll start as I’ll finish; forget Islam under fire, this brother was on fire.  In both, his on point chatter and in answering a range of questions from sometimes irritating and naïve students Moazzam Begg was tough, poignant and humorous.  I feel I have a shadow of the experience of a Black Panther rally thanks to him.

سامي الحاج هو مصور سوداني الأصل كان يعمل لقناة الجزيرة في أواخر 2001 عندما قبض عليه وسُلِّم للقوات الأمريكية. قضى قرابة سبع سنين ونصف في السجون الأمريكية، ستة منها في غوانتانامو.

التقى به معظم بيك، السجين البريطاني السابق في معتقل غوانتانامو والمدير حالياً لمنظمة Cageprisoners المهتمة بقضايا معتقلي غوانتانامو.
