Interview with Sophie Lemarche Harkat

Sophie Lemarche is the wife of Mohammed Harakat, a detainee who has been held under Canada’s controversial security certificates since 2002. The security certificates are Canada’s attempt to bring detention without charge in through the back door and Lemarche has spent the last six years campaigning against these measures. She speaks to Cageprisoners about how the certificates have affected her husband and their lives.

Cageprisoners today publishes an exclusive interview with Terry C. Holdbrooks Jr, a former guard at the notorious prison camps in Guantanamo Bay. During his term at the base, the former guard came into contact with a number of those detained. He eventually embraced Islam in the presence of former British resident, Ahmed Errachidi, known by the Guantanamo guards as ‘The General’. Holdbrooks has now spoken publicly due to his outrage at the policies taking place in Guantanamo and the continued unlawful detention of prisoners.

Nowhere To Go

Sweden's complicity in the world-wide detention of Monir Awad

Download the latest Cageprisoners report regarding the targetting and profiling of people from or travelling to the Horn of Africa. Based on cases collected by Cageprisoners researchers, this report points to worrying developments in the War on Terror.

The case of Aafia Siddiqui has brought with it a wave of emotion from all corners of the world. The detention of this woman, and allegedly her children, has evoked condemnation from politicians, lawyers and activists all over the world.

One of the key features of Fabricating Terrorism II, is the case of Farid Hilali. The case demonstrates that the UK security/intelligence officials were complicit in the rendition and torture of individuals as early as two years prior to 9/11. This fact suggests that the unlawful activities of the UK authorities are systematic, rather than rare abuses.

This clarification document has been written in the wake of a number of requests that have been received asking for clarification on the role of Muslim leadership in collaborating with the security services and police in counter-terrorism efforts in the UK.

Pakistan has found itself at the epicentre of the War on Terror. With over two thirds of those held in Guantanamo Bay having been detained in Pakistan, the Pakistani government has pushed itself and its country to the very forefront of international detention policies.

The UK government has made intentions to bring in a new raft of counter-terrorism legislation through a new bill to be discussed in November 2007.
