Three Years, No Justice - Menezes Commemorative Events 22nd July 2008

Jean Charles de Menezes was shot dead on 22nd July 2005 at Stockwell tube station during a pre-planned police anti-terror operation. Not a single police officer has faced any disciplinary action for the killing. This is
despite a jury at the Old Bailey finding the Office of the Commissioner of the Metropolitan police guilty of 'catastrophic errors' at the health and safety trial in October last year.

Violence at HMP Manchester Against Muslims

It seems that institutionalised persecution of Muslims, the cause of the violence that recently erupted at HMP Frankland, is now spreading to other prisons. This is particularly apparent at HMP Manchester. In the last few weeks, prisoners have reported to Arani Solicitors that they are being threatened by other inmates, and several have been assaulted. |
Visitors Being Forced To Remove Hijab

We have been made aware by Arani Solicitors who represent some of the detainees incarcerated within HMP Belmarsh that Prison officers have begun to request the searching of muslim visitors by making them remove their headscarves before visiting. This is of course extremely distressing for both the visitor and the prisoner, and many visits have been cancelled as a result.

Farid Hilali - July Update

As you may already be aware, Farid Hilali has been moved back to Madrid V prison, and is now being once again held in solitary confinement. He was moved there whilst appearing in magristrates court regarding his ongoing dispute with his previous legal team.
